If you are not living under a rock then you have probably heard not one, but TWO Meek Mill diss tracks. I’ve been wanting to write about this stupid beef that’s going on and how much I can’t stand the relationship between Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill, but that’ll be in a future sound off.
Six years to the date of releasing his first mixtape, So Far Gone (2.13.09), Drake dropped a new project that some thought was an album as it surfaced for purchase on iTunes. The mixtape, If You’re Reading This, Too Late, features 17 tracks. Of course the media calls this pulling a Beyoncè, but I see this as his way back to the forefront after being here and there and of course a follow-up to Nothing Was the Same. Oh the tactics. I still have yet to listen to the mixtape, but it’s something I will listen to on a car ride to work. If I can ride out to it, it’s good in my book. In the meantime I’m late (pun intended). Maybe I’ll do some type of review. Just maybe.
Speaking of Drake, Lil Wayne was supposed to be releasing a FREE album, but nothing has yet to surface. Last month he dropped Sorry 4 the Wait 2 (click HERE for ‘Drunk In Love (Remix)’ review) and the beef with his former “father” continues. Cash Money is one of the longest running Hip-Hop labels that is still putting out music and Young Money is the forefront to Drake and Nicki Minaj. The cover (to the left) is the artwork for the Free Weezy Album that has hit the net and according to Wayne the music has been sent, but according to fellow YM rapper Mack Maine there is no album and fans should just enjoy what Drake put out.
My thoughts on the whole YMCMB issue is that it’s a bond between Birdman and Lil Wayne that needs to be fixed. There could be a hell of a lot of outsiders putting in their 2 cents, but the real issue needs to be handled between boss and “son.” Regardless the entities are still together because there’d be no YM without CM. I really wish that the beef will be squashed and music and Birdman and Lil Wayne can go back to how things used to be. P
Imagine Dragons are heading on tour this summer, click HERE for dates, and they have released a video to their latest single ‘Shots.’ I was expecting something different, the video is inspired by paintings by Tim Cantor, but I still love the song nonetheless. Their album, Smoke + Mirrors, hits stores/online this Tuesday, February 17th. Check out the video below:
Trey Songz has also released a video for his latest single ‘Slow Motion’ after flooding Instagram with the track over various Vines. The single will be featured on the re-release of his album Trigga, to be titled, Trigga Reloaded dropping April 14th. For fans looking for a ton of new music ‘Slow Motion’ seems to be the only track. As for this ‘Slow Motion’ video, it’s typical Trey Songz: Trey, female, no clothes, touchin’/lovin’. I’m just over a lot of what he’s putting out. As a Trey Songz fan I try really hard to like his new music, but I’m not fully interested. Anyway, check out the video below:
More news to come next week and expect more reviews.
Lil Wayne has released his mixtape, Sorry for the Wait 2. No surprise that since the album didn’t drop a mixtape was released. What better way to connect with the fans and keep a buzz than free music.
I’m not vocally comparing Chrisitna Milian to Beyonce because there is no comparison. No shade to Christina, she has a nice voice, but it’s not for ‘Drunk In Love’. She didn’t even showcase her vocal ability. I didn’t expect it to be a cover. When I saw Lil Wayne was releasing a mixtape I wasn’t surprised to see that she was featured.
This song is just REALLY too much for me. They took a song that subliminally talked about sex metaphorically using surfboards and what not. Now their version is straight up fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck. They took the sexiness out of the song. For a song that was sleek it’s now trash.
No surfboard, the skateboard. While the objects are one in the same, one with wheels one without, I’m not pleased. I listened through to write the review, but I’m good on this. I don’t care about the sex life between Christina Milian & Tunechi. Not interested at all. He can keep this. I’m over it.
As for the mixtape overall I haven’t really given it a thorough listen. From what I’ve heard it’s the typical Lil Wayne. I’m still interested in seeing how this whole YMCMB issue plays out. Fans couldn’t get Tha Carter V so this had to tie them over.
Listen to the mixtape HERE. ‘Drunk In Love’ track 10:
Nicki Minaj released her long-awaited third studio album, The Pinkprint, on December 15th. The standard album features 16 tracks, deluxe 19 tracks, and the iTunes edition features a bonus track, ‘Truffle Butter’. The regular and deluxe of the iTunes edition both feature ‘Truffle Butter’, only difference is you get _ tracks fFeatures include: Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, Drake, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Jeremih, Meek Mill, Lunchmoney Lewis, Skylar Grey, and Meek Mill.
The album overall has definitely grown on me. I wasn’t completely a fan as I heard ‘Pills n Potions’ followed by ‘Anaconda’. When she released ‘Pills n Potions’, I was thinking, is this how you come back to the scene? In between that ‘Lookin Ass’ dropped, even though it didn’t make the album, followed by her dope bars on ‘Chiraq’. After that I was ready for more and ‘Pills n Potions’ was irrelevant. Then she released ‘Anaconda’ and I thought, is this her way of including a hip hop classic yet still having a pop vibe? The first track, ‘All Things Go’ was a life update followed by heart break, ‘I Lied’ an ‘Crying Game’, before getting into some radio friendly tracks especially her smash with Beyoncé. The middle of the album before getting into ‘Pills n Potions’ was a little bit of this and little bit of that. ‘Trini Dem Girls’ is a nice track that I didn’t expect to like as much as I do.
Rumor has it she had a thing with Meek Mill which she denies, but he is featured on the album on two tracks ‘Buy a Heart’ and ‘Big Daddy’. My favorite from the two would be ‘Buy a Heart’. That’s another track I could hear on the radio. Both tracks because of the beat and the feature could definitely hit the airwaves. ‘Big Daddy’ is definitely more so for the hip hop heads. After ‘Grand Piano’ Nicki gets back to the bars on ‘Shanghai’, but I’m not a fan of the beat. I get the theme of it based on the title, but eh. To end the album, unless you have the iTunes version, ‘Win Again’ is alright. I would’ve liked a bigger punch to end it because Nicki does have bars. When you add in ‘Truffle Butter’ from the iTunes version THAT is a way to end an album. The beat, the bars, the total package. Dope song. Why is it titled truffle butter? That I have yet to figure out.
Side note, it wouldn’t be a Nicki album if she didn’t rap about “sonning” someone. That was one thing that annoyed me lyrically is that there had to be like 4 or 5 tracks that she said that just in different ways. After the first two times I had to check my Spotify to make sure I didn’t have the track on repeat.
My Top 5 —
- ‘The Crying Game’
- ‘I Lied’
- ‘Grand Piano’
- ‘Truffle Butter’ (feat. Drake & Lil Wayne)
- ‘Feeling Myself’ (by default; “Pretty on Fleek, Pretty Pretty on Fleek”)
Tracks I DON’T Like —
- ‘Pills n Potions’
At first I didn’t like ‘Get on Your Knees’ featuring Ariana Grande, but as the beat builded it wasn’t so bad.
Click below for reviews that I have done of previously released singles:
I would’ve liked better transitions of the tracks as I like albums that flow with themes. I’m not saying she should’ve chose different tracks, but going from a track like ‘Grand Piano’ to ‘Big Daddy’ is a jump. It shows that Nicki is versatile, but the transitions could’ve been better as in placement of songs. Rating wise, I give the album a solid 4/5.
Check out my review to The Pinkprint Movie HERE and as always click the links above. Listen to the album below via Spotify:
Nicki Minaj has been in full promo mode with her new album, The Pinkprint, and she’s released a mini-movie. The 16 minute video features an intro of ‘All Things Go’ before splitting into three parts for tracks: ‘The Crying Game’, ‘I Lied’, and ‘Grand Piano’.
‘The Crying Game’ is her getting into a fight with her boyfriend (or whatever),Willy Monfret ,after a night out. That green dress she has on looks great. She leaves him standing there as the video shows her driving around in her Range Rover, tears shed hear and there. Ladies in a relationship can understand getting into a fight and driving around in your feelings. You’re driving, but you’re still in your feelings not really paying attention. The track abruptly ends when Nicki’s truck is hit on the passenger side.
I was expecting part 2, ‘I Lied’, to show that she was in a hospital or something, but she ended up in the back of a car driven by Boris Kodjoe. This song is showing another side of Nicki as she sings more than she raps. It’s showing that she doesn’t want to move on because of what she’s previously dealt with, but that’s all lies. It’s just a way of protecting herself from being hurt again. She gets the little butterfly stitch and she casually gets semi-intimate with “the other guy” that seems to care.
Part 3, ‘Grand Piano’, shows Nicki in a red dress and back with her boyfriend. They are out somewhere as people stop and stare and look at them. The video fits well with the lyrics of the song. Another one of Nicki singing. People look on knowing how the guy treats her yet she stays. Most importantly, she stays. So he plays her heart like a grand piano and she says play on. It ends with her driving off with him in a fancy car with “the other guy” looking on. I guess she made her decision.
I’m very impressed and I love that it’s not all over the place. There’s a theme to it and all three songs are amazing. My favorite out of the three is ‘Crying Game’. Full review of The Pinkprint coming soon.
Spare 16 minutes below:

I’ve done a track review, posted the lyric video, and now here’s the review to the highly anticipated video for Nicki Minaj’s ‘Anaconda’. First off I’m not a fan of it at all. I’m not surprised that there is ass shaking everywhere. The song samples Sir Mix-A-Lot’s, ‘Baby Got Back’, so of course ASS would be the focal point.
The video has so many scenes. First there’s the jungle with the banana turntable and leaking coconut. Switch to her in A. Mcqueen then back to the jungle. Then there’s the workout scene where she’s in a bikini at one point then she’s in sweats. Moving on to the chair and the cut off shorts with the jordans and basic chair choreo. She drops the Jordans and then has on heels, pink ones of course. She plugs Myx Moscato, has a scene eating a banana (cute pun), then there’s the final scene with Drake. She gives him the ultimate lap dance and there’s no denying that he was enjoying it.
To expect Nicki Minaj to not be shaking her ass you must’ve missed the entire concept of the title. I will say while the video is not my favorite it’s very clever, well the lyrics are. There’s no denying that she’s gorgeous and that her body is amazing, BUT it’s like she was doing the most in this video. It’s like it was beyond sexy and just straight sex. Nonetheless, she looked great, but she’s done better.

Nicki Minaj may not have had a #1 on the Hot 100 just yet, but she has set a record of her own. With ‘Anaconda’ debuting at #19 on the Hot 100 it makes it her 51st Hot 100 hit surpassing Michael Jackson who she was tied with at 50. Michael Jackson had been stacking hits since 1971 with ‘Got To Be There’. Nicki’s debut on the chart was Lil Wayne’s, ‘Knockout’ (Rebirth) in February 2010, although she was on the chart for Young Money’s, ‘BedRock’ (We Are Young Money) in December 2009. Other sources say her first is her collab with Lil Wayne, ‘Knockout’ (Rebirth). Out of the 51 hits tallied, 20 of those were earned as a solo act. Her first solo Hot 100 hit was ‘Your Love’ (Pink Friday). Her debut album made her the first female MC to have 8 singles simultaneously that all ranked in the Hot 100. She tweeted:
In addition to having the most Hot 100s, she’s topped Missy Elliot who was leading the pack with 31 hits. She now ties with Eminem at 7th place for most hits for a rapper overall. She’s tied with Rod Stewart for having 51 hits and the most overall goes to the cast of Glee which has 207. Check out the MASSIVE playlist of Nicki’s Hot 100 hits below:
