In Case You Missed It: ‘Play No Games’ & ‘BBHMM’

It’s been quite some time since I’ve blogged. Hey, let’s blame it on grad school and my Netflix coma over the holiday weekend. In the meantime, check out what my lack of posts the past week below:

To get back into the swing of things, I wanted to share two videos that I’ve been loving. There’s not many artists that push the boundaries in videos. There’s some artists that have no boundaries at all. I appreciate videos that have concept and take you on a journey. Videos that tell a story. In the industry these days, those videos are hard to come by. Two that I’ve been loving are Big Sean’s, ‘Play No Games,’ and Rihanna’s, ‘BBHMM.’

Original v. Cover [V.11]: ‘B*tch Better Have My Money’ & ‘Trap Queen’

This is a double header of Original v. Cover. I heard covers of both ‘B*tch Better Have My Money’ and ‘Trap Queen.’ Both of which I surprisingly enjoy.

Single Review: Rihanna, ‘B*tch Better Have My Money’

R8 is coming, just not sure when. Rihanna has released a new single off her upcoming album, R8. She teased with the hashtag #BBHM, ‘Bitch Better Have My Money,’ with an interesting picture. It’s edgy and what I suppose to be an edgy couture with the overdrawn eyebrows. Moving past that, let’s get back to the music.

Single Review: Rihanna, ‘FourFiveSeconds’

rihanna-fourfiveseconds-coverRihanna is back with new music and unfortunately it’s not what I expected. This is her first track that’s not promo from her 2012 album, Unapologetic (click HERE for that review). She teams up with Paul McCartney and Kanye West for this track.

The track is titled ‘FourFiveSeconds’ and while lyrically it’s nice, this is not what I was expecting for Rihanna music. Rihanna has a formula that her fans are no stranger to. She can do the pop, reggae, and ballads. I see that she’s trying out something different, but I don’t like it. I had similar feelings when I first heard ‘Diamonds’, but that song grew on me. I don’t see this one doing the same.

Kanye comes in and sings like he’s been doing on a lot of his tracks. Not any auto tune. No singing from Paul McCartney, he’s playing the guitar. When looking at the artwork it looks edgier than what the song really is.

Lyrically, as noted, it’s a nice song. Musically it fits the song, but I’m not feeling it. I wanted a upbeat song from Rihanna and if Kanye was going to be on it I wanted him to be spitting bars, not singing. This sounds like something for a movie soundtrack. Vocally Rihanna sounds great. Personally, I just don’t like the song.

When I think of a comeback, I think of something hard hitting and will soar on the radio. Radio play equals buzz which hypes fans for the album. Then again there’s been plenty of songs on the radio to soar yet the album would be a flop. Maybe this is a just an experiment from her. Who knows what will be on the album.

You can listen to the track HERE and it’s available for purchase on iTunes.

Rihanna ‘Viva Glam’

Rihanna 'Viva Glam'

Rihanna and Mac team up again this time for ‘Viva Glam.’ She follows behind other celebs with this campaign such as Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, and Nicki Minaj.

Just like the previous Viva Glam campaigns all portions will be going toward the Mac Aids Fund which supports people directly supported by HIV/Aids.As for the lipstick / lip gloss the color is nothing spectacular. The packaging for the new campaign is not different than that of the others either, which is a good thing. You can purchase the lip pies NOW before they sell out.

Rihanna’s, RiRi Hearts Mac, collection has been selling out left and right with popular lipsticks, ‘RiRi Woo,’ ‘Heaux,’ and ‘Talk That Talk’. The collection spans beyond lipsticks/lip glosses to mascara lip/brow liners, eyeshadow, blushes and brushes PLUS the AMAZING packaging.Click to see what you can snag out of the RiRi Hearts Mac Collection for the Fall and Holiday. [You can also check Ebay/Amazon, BUT they are way overpriced.]
