Big Sean has released a video for his latest single, ‘I Don’t Fuck With You’ featuring E-40 and this one is surely a banger. I never got around to doing a track review because when the track came out I hadn’t even heard it. I just saw countless hashtags (#IDFWU) and people saying it just like Big Sean does. Once I heard it, I definitely added it to my rotation (check out my September/October Favorites).

So this is a jam packed cameo video and revolves around, my favorite, FOOTBALL! Pictures had surfaced weeks ago and I knew that Teyana Taylor, fellow G.O.O.D. Music artist would be featured. I did not know that Kanye West would be on the sideline, and be coach at that, nor was I expecting to see DJ Mustard on the field. I mean, Ye and Mustard produced the track so that’s cool. Enough rambling, let’s get into the review.

First shout out to the commentator, Big Boy from Cali’s Power 106,. Big Sean is the star high school quarterback of the Lions (no surprise D-Town) as they face the Pirates. He apparently has a ton of scholarships yet he’s having one sucky game. Coach Ye is on the sideline being super chill. I was expecting a more turnt up Ye. Hello, your star QB is messing up the game. Moving on, it flashes between Sean throwing an interception to the Pirates fans cheering and his teammates looking on and shaking their heads. Teyana Taylor looked cute on the side as a cheerleader.

The beat changes and it shows Sean getting in the car with his ‘girl’ who is from the other school which looks to be a rival, yet it shows clips of her with another dude. The shade. Back to the game, Kanye whispers “Focus” and Sean suddenly gets it together. Insert E-40 who’s another commentator in the booth. He looks great by the way. DJ Mustard takes the field (insert another ‘MateFit’ plug). He gets the ball, bulldozes into the end zone, and TOUCHDOWN!

10 seconds left and the score is 24-21, Lions down. With one second left time slows down as Big Sean plugs his new girlfriend in his rhymes and ends up taking the ball into the end zone. Excuse me, DIVES into the end zone  Hurray, Lions win. No surprise. His “girl” approaches him and he doesn’t cause a scene or anything. The thirsty chick in the stands all night tries to run up on him and pushes the other girl out the way only for Sean to push her out the way and move past both chicks. Another girl flashes him her boobs and he proudly signs them before being lifted into the air by his teammates. Great front page picture shot.

I really enjoyed the video. He had a lot of distractions in the beginning of the game, but it ultimately came down to getting focused and doing what he had to do. That’s like with any breakup. You may be down for bit, but then you have to bounce back and get back on your grind and worry about yourself. Great video.

Sean is in the process of working on his 3rd studio album and in an interview with Carson Daly stated:

You guys might be getting it for a stocking stuffer, who knows?

If he plans on throwing more shade on this one, I’m all for it. I’m ready for a new Big Sean album.

This Week In Music [V. 22]: Track Overload #3

Here’s another edition of This Week In Music. As always, be sure to click the links (in bold) throughout the post. Check out what’s been covered this week thus far below:

Now let’s get into the new music that I didn’t cover this week.

With all the police brutality happening across the country lately, there have been countless artists to voice their frustration through their music. There’s been Elle Varner’s, ‘One Love’; J. Cole, ‘Be Free’; Lauryn Hill, ‘Black Rage’B.o.B., ‘New Black; and other celebrities that have shown their support via various social media outlets. T.I. has released a track titled ‘New National Anthem’. He teams up with Skylar Grey and gives his take on everything that’s going on and contradicting what we are told are rights as people opposed to the hand that’s actually dealt.

I absolutely love the track from beginning to end. I hope this makes the cut for his new album, just because. Take a listen below:

Switching gears, Tinashe  has released a new single featuring A$AP Rocky, ‘Pretend’. This is much slower than her radio smash, ‘2 On’, but similar to her other track she’s teaming with another rapper. I’m not sure how this would do on urban radio, but it could make it’s way to like 92.3 or Z100. This track definitely show that her label doesn’t want to just keep her in the R&B box and trying to merge Pop into this project. I think the sound of ‘2 On’ was a great intro to her musicality, but we all know Pop wins in this day in age.  I would like to hear more music from her without any hip hop features. Her debut album, Âquarius, will hit stores October 17th.

Check out the track below:

Teyana Taylor has released the visual to ‘Maybe’ off her long-awaited debut album, VII. The track features Pusha T and Yo Gotti. The video is like a comic strip as she’s in three different personas. The black curly hair is Teyana Taylor, the red hair is Jacqueline Mercury, and the platinum grey Marilyn Monroe hair is Greyla Greenhouse. Interesting visual she displayed.

I would love to hear a upbeat track from her with a bomb visual being that she’s an amazing dancer. Hopefully she’ll drop one before her album drops.Her debut is set to be released October 21st. via G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam. Check out the video below:

Juicy J is back with another strip club track, ‘Low’, featuring Nicki Minaj, Lil Bibby, and Young Thug. The video is what I would expect from Juicy. Girls dancing around this time they’re just dancing around cars and motorcycles. It wouldn’t be a Juicy video without some twerking. Check out the video below:

This Week In Music [V.19] — New Music + News

Welcome to August! Here’s another edition of This Week In Music. Be sure to click the links below for what’s been highlighted this week:

5sos-album-cover-standard-naNow onto other music news. 5 Seconds of Summer‘s self-titled debut topped the Billboard 200 this week wit 259,000 copies sold. That’s nearly double the sales of their EP, She Looks So Perfect, which peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200 earlier this year with 143,000 copies sold in its first week. Last week’s #1 album, Mandatory Fun (“Weird Al” Yankovic) fell 2 spots to #3. Surging back to #2 is the Frozen Soundtrack which spends its 31st week in the Top 5. Common’s, Nobody’s Smiling, debuted at #6 making it his third top 10 album, To see who else ranked on the Billboard 200, CLICK HERE.

chris-brown-september-16As summer is coming to a close, the release dates for Fall albums are being released. Chris Brown has just announced (via Instagram) that his long-awaited album, X, will be released September 16th. It will feature ‘Loyal’ (featuring Tyga & Lil Wayne) and his latest single ‘New Flame’ (featuring Usher & Rick Ross).

Breezy’s good friend and G.O.O.D. Music leading lady, Teyana Taylor, will finally be releasing her debut album. It will be titled, VII, and she tweeted the meaning of the album.

S/O to @DefJamRecords believing in my visions & trusting me creatively! Everything is falling into place. #VII #YearofCompletion #Oct.21st

@TEYANATAYLOR

Speaking of Def Jam, Trinidad James tweeted that he had been dropped from the label.

I should tell y’all I got dropped by the label. My album is now free. If u hear ur beat or verse on it I hope you want dap cuz i got no money.

@TrinidadJamesGG

Trinidad Jams is known best for his gold certified track, ‘All Gold Everything’. He never released a debut album, only 2 mixtapes under his belt, Don’t Be S.A.F.E. and 10 PC Mild. The tweet has since been deleted and he’s still under the Artists Archive on the Def Jam site. Who knows.

As for other albums set to be released in the fall, Lenny Kravitz will be releasing his 10th studio album, Strut, September 23rd. Take a listen to his single, ‘Sex’, below:

Set to be released the same day as Lenny Kravitz album is Tony Bennet & Lady Gaga’s joint album, Cheek to Cheek. It will feature a compilation of jazz covers ‘It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)’, ‘Sophisticated Lady’, ‘Lush Life’, and more. Check out ‘Anything Goes’ below:

UntitledTo round off the week, aside from Bey and Nicki dropping the ‘Flawless [Remix]’, Remy Ma has been released from prison. WELCOME HOME REMY! Straight out the gate she has gone and teamed up with DJ Khaled for a remix of ‘They Don’t Love You No More’. The track is ok, I personally don’t like the original. While Remy is a great rapper in her own right, being that she’s been locked up for as long as she has she needed to hit the streets harder. There’s a buzz around her and she needs to be putting out music weekly, hell why not daily. Of course there’s this beef that is being created between her and Nicki Minaj and I would just prefer for them to go bar for bar on a track. Remy stated in an interview with Angie Martinez (Power 105.1) that there was no beef. She also said in that interview that she would be doing reality TV. No surprise she’s slated to appear on the newest season of LHHNY. CLICK HERE to listen to the track.
