Nicki Minaj has been jumping on track after track, ‘No Love (Remix)’, ‘Bang Bang’. ‘Flawless (Remix)’, plus more and now she’s finally releasing another single off her upcoming album The Pink Print. There was ‘Lookin’ Ass’, ‘Pills N Potions’, and now the audio for the controversial artwork to ‘Anaconda’.
The track is really nothing extravagant to me. I guess I was expecting something more hard hitting. I feel like she hasn’t fully figured out the sound that she wants and while she has the freedom to experiment based off singles she’s released nothing sounds cohesive. This time around she samples Sir Mix-a-Lot‘s, ‘Baby Got Back’, and while I’m all for samples I just find nothing ‘OMG’ about this track. It’s not horrible, but Nicki has done better. Her freestyles to ‘Chiraq’ and ‘No Flex Zone’ sound better than this. The track was supposed to drop last week (7.28), but Nicki is no fool to marketing. There’s a buzz around her collab with Beyoncé so why not drop the new single. Again I’m all for experimenting it’s just that the song didn’t live up to the artwork.

I recently reviewed Nicki Minaj’s video for ‘Lookin A** Ni**a’ and she’s released a statement regarding the unofficial artwork that was released.
What seems to be the issue now? Do you have a problem with me referring to the people Malcolm X was ready to pull his gun out on as Lookin Ass Niggaz? Well, I apologize. That was never the official artwork nor is this an official single. This is a conversation. Not a single. I am in the video shooting at Lookin Ass Niggaz and there happened to be an iconic photo of Malcolm X ready to do the same thing for what he believed in!!!! It is in no way to undermine his efforts and legacy. I apologize to the Malcolm X estate if the meaning of the photo was misconstrued. The word ‘nigga’ causes so much debate in our community while the ‘nigga’ behavior gets praised and worship. Let’s not. Apologies again to his family. I have nothing but respect an adoration for u. The photo was removed hours ago. Thank you.
Well according to Nicki this wasn’t a single and it’s probably true that it wasn’t. Her creativity was leader her another way, but her actions were taken personally and offensively. She could’ve just let this be swept under the rug, but I commend her for releasing the statement out of respect. Check out my official video review here.
I saw pics all over the blogs about Ms. Minaj shooting a new video, but I wasn’t expecting for it to be released so soon. First off, CLAP CLAP BRAVO to Nicki on this one. I love the simplicity of it & her bars, excuse me her PUNCHLINES are on point. It’s been a while since Nicki has been spitting like she used to and as promised she said she’d get back to it and this was not a disappointment. She’s in a desert looking fierce and I love how although she’s dressed sexy she’s not outlandishly sexy and I love the scenes where it focuses on her mouth and her rapping more so than her body. I love the way that this is going and I hope that her future music is like this. I love punchline Nicki that makes SENSE!
Nicki’s album is said to be called, The Pink Print. No word on whether the tile will be released as a mixtape or album. Aside from working on her own music, Nicki is teaming back up with her YMCMB crew and the track ‘Senile’ (w/ Tyga & Lil Wayne) is expected to drop any day now. I’m interested in seeing the REJUVENATION of YMCMB. They’ve all been low-key except for Drizzy Drake, but he’s in his own lane. Could 2014 be the year of YMCMB again?
