Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, grandmas, aunts, god mothers, mother figures, etc. Today I celebrate my number one lady, my grandma. My mother passed away nearly 9 years ago, the day before my 17th birthday, my senior year of high school. My grandmother stepped in to the role of both mom and grandma which I can never thank her enough for. While I could buy her this and that, at 85 years old, what she enjoys most are heartfelt gifts. So what did I make? I decided to create an interactive card and the outcome, #AMAZING!

K. Michelle is no stranger to giving her all in her tracks vocally and lyrically and her latest release, ‘A Mother’s Prayer’ is no different. The song is dedicated to her 7 year old son, Chase. In an interview with Essence she stated:
“My son Chase is the center my universe. My fans and media don’t often see him in the spotlight with me and that is because I work really hard to keep his childhood as normal and carefree as possible. I think the most difficult part of my job is not being there each night to tuck my son in, but the sacrifices I make while working are all with his better interest in mind. Being a mother is the most challenging and rewarding part of my life, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
The video takes viewers on a oh so familiar journey of a single mother having who does their best as being both mom and dad to a child and making any and every sacrifice they have to for their child to get where they need to be.
Your daddy loves you. And I love you too. Sorry we couldn’t work it out for you, but we ton do what’s best for you.
The track was featured on her debut,Rebellious Soul . She’s known best for her time on Love & Hip Hop:ATL, but she’ll be starring in her own reality series, “Untitled the K. Michelle Project”, which is set to premier November 3rd.
Check out the amazing video below. Happy Mother’s Day!
I have yet another OOTD, Mother’s Day Edition. I’m not doing anything major for the day, but I decided to dress up just a little. My pieces are from Forever 21, a local thrift store, and my usual jewelry from H&M/NY&CO/Wet Seal. Check out the details below. Be sure to check out my outfit from yesterday, OOTD #5: Color Block.
No quote can help explain the love that my mother had for her 5 children. One song puts it all into words. When she was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer in August 2005 it was a shock to my entire family. How is that a woman who never smoked could get such a debilitating disease. The doctors gave her six months to live, but she fought the time clock for 3 years before passing October 14, 2008. I was a day shy of 17 years old and in my Senior year of high school. From that point on I made it a mission to educate myself and others about lung cancer. I majored in English Communications-Broadcast Journalism in college and every chance I got to choose a personal topic I chose Lung Cancer. My capstone project took my passion for educating people about the disease as I created a video, “Blindsided: The Misconception of Lung Cancer”.
I look back at the video and look at all the clips I could/should have used and I just know that this will forever be a work in progress. What has started out as a final project for me to graduate has turned into a long term project I want to make a full length documentary. One day I will finish. In the meantime I continue to educate with what I know and research.
During my mother’s battle she always played Sade’s, ‘By Your Side’, and on the days that I’m feeling low and missing her presence I play that song. It doesn’t completely fill the void, but it’s the song that she dedicate to my siblings and I and it’s one song that always resonates in helping to pick me up.
Although my mother is not physically here I have been blessed to have my grandmother pick up where she left off. She’s been my #1 supporter through every thing and brags about all my accomplishments to whoever she can. Although I might feel small and I might not have went to the prestigious college/university my grandmother always notes that I have done something a lot haven’t. She lets me know to have continuous faith and to look at all that I have accomplished past the setbacks and devastations in my life.
Happy Mother’s Day to my angel and my living inspiration. No words can ever explain how I much I love these two and how thankful and grateful I am for all the sacrifices they have made. I love you mom & grandma.
