This Week In Music (V.30): Top of the Charts + New Music

Welcome to another edition of This Week In Music. Let’s talk top of the charts, posts of the week, and new music. First up, incase you’ve missed it, check out my posts of the week below:

On to the top of the charts. Alabama Shakes nabs their first #1 album on the Billboard 200 with their 2nd studio album, Sound & Color with 97,000 copies sold. In at #2 is the Furious 7 Soundtrack and YelaWolf‘s, Love Story, debuts at #3. Over on the Hot 100, Wiz Khalifa‘s ‘See You Again’ remains at #1 with ‘Uptown Funk’ still in at #2. Fetty Wap‘s, ‘Trap Queen,’ comes in at #3 bumping down The Weeknd‘s, ‘Earned It.’ Check out Alabama Shakes’ ‘Sound & Color’ video below:

Ciara is gearing up to release her new album, Jackie, tomorrow (5/4) and I’m in love with her latest track ‘Dance Like We’re Making Love.’ Another track has surfaced featuring Pitbul and Missy Elliot. The track titled, ‘That’s How I’m Feelin’ is an upbeat track, but I still prefer ‘Dance Like We’re Making Love.’

In other news, Beyonce has signed three artists to Parkwood Entertainment, sisters Chloe and Halle Bailey along with past X-Factor contestant, Sophie Beem. Chloe and Halle went viral with their cover of Beyonce’s ‘Pretty Hurts.’ Both deals combined total over $1.5 million. Check out the talented girls below:

This Week In Music (V.28): Billboard Awards, Future Collabs, & MORE!

Welcome to another edition of This Week In Music (my typical intro). Click the links below for my posts of the week.

1428449191197I have quite a bit to mention so let’s get right into it. The Billboard Awards finalists have been released and Taylor Swift leads the pack with 14 nominations. There’s no surprise there with the success of 1989 which spends its 23rd consecutive week on the Billboard 200 this week. Sam Smith has 13 nominations, followed by Iggy Azalea with 12 nominations. ‘All About That Bass’ singer, Meghan Trainor, isn’t to be left out with 9 nominations. For full list of nominees, click HERE. Prayers go out to Taylor as she announced that her mother has been diagnosed with cancer. The Billboard Music Awards air May 17th and will be hosted by Ludacris and Pete Wentz.

IFWT_WALE1Moving on to chart news, Wale has dethroned Kendrick Lamar who had the #1 spot for two weeks. Wale’s, The Album About Nothing, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 with 100,00 copies sold in its first week. The biggest triumph on the chart would have to be the Furious 7 Soundtrack which catapulted to #2 from it’s last weeks position of 17. In at #3 is Ludacris’, Ludaversal. As for the Hot 100, Mark Monsoon and Bruno Mars’ ‘Uptown Funk,’ still sits pretty at #1. Maybe just maybe it will tie with Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s ‘One Sweet Day’ which has the record of 16 weeks.

cydrus_2015-Mar-29As for new collabs on the way, fans of Danity Kane have watched the group dwindle like a countdown, 5..4…3…2. Yes the group is officially no more and the reunion is short lived. As a group Danity Kane released 2 albums under Bad Boy Records. My personal favorite was their second, Welcome to the Dollhouse. After watching Making The Band 3 and seeing how the group was formed I was a fan instantaneously once the group was finally formed. Now it’s just down to two ladies, Shannon Bex and Aubrey O’Day, who know call themselves DumBlonde. Interesting to see how this will pan out.

Iggy Azalea and Britney Spears Film a Music Video on Ventura BlvdIn other collabs, Britney Spears is teaming with Iggy Azalea in what can be a comeback or a flop with a track titled, ‘Pretty Girls.’ Britney Spears has rejuvenated her career successfully in the past, but could this collab be another chart topper? From the pictures on the internet, I’m not too sure. Hopefully the song if nothing else is decent enough for radio buzz. Maybe it’ll last longer than the short lived Fergie return.

Lastly, congrats are in order to new parents Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel. They welcomed a baby boy over the weekend, Silas Ryan Timberlake.

Until next week…

Trinidad James Remixes ‘Uptown Funk’

wpid-wp-1426476486885.jpegDon’t believe me just watch

That can be heard at the end of the hook in ‘ Uptown Funk’, but the first to say it was Trinidad James in his smash and one hit wonder, ‘All Gold Everything’.

Now Trinidad James jumped on in the beginning and was rapping about this and that. He spit bars in reference to Def Jam dropping him. A slight diss not diss. He aLao referenced Rick James, MC Hammer, and he even mentioned Beyonce wanting him. Yeah, in doubt that. I mean his bars at the end could’ve been better. The best he came up with was

Got a brand new cape, hallelujah. Got a brand new cane, hallelujah.

My favorite line:

I’m Jeromey Rome with a Gina and Pam

The song resumed after his part which usually happens when an artist unofficially jumps on a track. This wasn’t the kind of song that needed a remix because it is classic as is. I know why he jumped on I mean people were saying his punchline for the longest.

Was his remix horrible? No. Was it needed? No.

Listen to the remix below:
