All-Female Top 5 for the 5th Consecutive Week on the Hot 100

picI initially blogged, nearly a month ago, that the ladies had dominated the top 5 of the Hot 100 (CLICK HERE for that post). For the 5th consecutive week the ladies are still ruling over the top 5 and have set a record with the success.

In at #1 is Meghan Trainor‘s, ‘All About That Bass’ followed by Billboard’s Woman of the Year, Taylor Swift in at #2 with ‘Shake It Off’. In at #3 is Iggy Azalea‘s, ‘Black Widow’, featuring Rita Ora, #4 is Jessie Js ‘Bang Bang’ featuring Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, and at #5 is Nicki Minaj‘s ‘Anaconda’. Congrats to Nicki as it was announced this week that ‘Anaconda’ has gone platinum.

The other longest feat for women in the top 5 of the Hot 100 happened in 1999. Monica‘s (‘Angel of Mine’), Britney Spears (‘…Baby One More Time’), Deborah Cox (‘Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here’), Cher (‘Believe’) and Brandy‘s (‘Have You Ever’)in the top 5 at that time.

Video Review: Jessie J, ‘Bang Bang’

bang-bang-videoThe visual for ‘Bang Bang’ has been released and the performance on the VMAs was a sight to see. The video is very similar to that of their Beats commercial so the commercial was really a sneak peak into what to expect. Jessie J does the whole bend and snap hair swing and shoulder shake, nothing with a bunch of umph. She could’ve went harder with the choreo. Her outfit was cute, trousers, suspenders, crop top, and heels. The curly hair is cute on her and I love it way more than the slicked back pony tail she’s been rocking elsewhere. Ariana is such a doll, literally. She’s dancing around with a megaphone spray painted with ‘Bang’ and her two piece white lace ensemble with white heels is pretty cute. Her voice usually annoys me, but she works well with this song (as mentioned in my initial track review). Then there’s Ms. Minaj. Nicki spits her bars from the rooftop in front of a helicopter in a  black leather top, leopard skirt, and black heels. I love the simplicity of her looks as of late. Nothing outlandish. The video ends with the ladies on top of the rooftop in new outfits. Nicki has on a neon yellow skirt with matching heels and a colorful bra. Jessie has on an interesting dress that’s the same as what she wore on the VMAs except in a metallic zebra print. Ariana is no surprise in yet another TWO PIECE that’s shiny with what looks like a pink chevron.

The video overall could’ve used some more choreo, but the ladies looked great so points for that. Ovther than that it was just alright.

Jessie J Reveals Album Artwork + Release Date

jessie-j-sweet-talkerJessie J is making her way back to mainstream pop with the lead single off her new album, ‘Bang Bang’ featuring Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj. Her third studio album, Sweet Talker, will be released October 13th in the UK and October 14th in the U.S.

Her debut album, Who You Are (2011), peaked at #11 on the Billboard 200 and spawned commercial hits ‘Price Tag’ and ‘Domino’ which peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100. The follow-up, Alive (2013), was not as successful as her debut, but spawned 3 singles: ‘Wild’, ‘It’s My Party’, and ‘Thunder’.

Sweet Talker is said to feature production by Diplo, Tricky Stewart, The-Dream, and Max Martin. As for other collaborations, 2 Chainz has been slated for her track ‘Burning Up’.

Meghan Trainor Soars 28-8 on Hot 100

Meghan-Trainor2014When I first saw the “All About That Bass” video on Facebook I was intrigued from the start from the colorful video and the message. I instantly wanted to hear more, but unfortunately all she had on her YouTube was her debut track. Meghan Trainor is a signer-songwriter from Massachusetts signed to Epic Records. The track has soared 20 spots into the top 10 of the Hot 100, from 28-8, which is pretty decent considering in just five weeks its sold over 350,000 copies.

Check out her colorful, size doesn’t matter video below (directed by Fatima Robinson):

As for who else is on the Hot 100, Magic! still holds tight for the 4th week with ‘Rude’. Sam Smith is vying for the number one spot as ‘Stay With Me’ moves up a spot to #2. In at #3 is Iggy Azalea’s, ‘Fancy’ which swapped spots with Sam Smith with in a week as it slowly moves down the charts. No worries, it’s still sold over 3 million copies, and counting. Nico and Vinz hold tight at #4 with ‘Am I Wrong’ and in at #5 is Ariana Grande’s, ‘Problem’.

Jessie J’s latest single, ‘Bang Bang’, featuring Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj has debuted at #6 and in at #7 is Maroon 5’s ‘Maps’. As mentioned above, ‘All About That Bass’ is in at #8, Sia’s ‘Chandelier’ is in at #9, and rounding off the top 10 is Disclosure’s ‘Latch’.

Can Meghan Trainor hold momentum and soar higher into the top 10?

Will Sam Smith finally get a taste of the top spot with ‘Stay With Me?’

Is ‘Bang Bang’ on the road to #1?

Only time will tell. Until next time …
