Sound OFF: Hot 97 versus Power 105.1

Welcome to a new series here on the blog. Since rebranding and renaming my blog Chaotic Critic, I’ve done a lot of planner and other lifestyle posts, but the essence of the name has yet to be showcased. I still want to do reviews and give my take on certain life topics, but there’s so much going on in the blogosphere, on the news, via Twitter or Instagram, that I want to share my thoughts. These are my opinions, no holds barred, real talk.

NEW MUSIC — Kendrick Lamar, ‘The Blacker the Berry’

Grammy-award winning artist Kendrick Lamar (that has a nice ring) has released another single off his upcoming album titled ‘The Blacker the Berry.’ Although he won a Grammy for the single ‘i’ with no album reeled, I was expecting a darker Kendrick sound similar to sounds from Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, and this track gives me that. Take a listen below:

Black History Month In Music

bhm1Hello lovely readers. I did a series last year of historic moments in black music. This year I’m doing something different, but I wanted to share last years series. Be sure to click the links below. Enjoy!

snoopdogg-steelerss-006004HAPPY BIRTHDAY SNOOOOOOP DOGG (it’s the D-O-GG)! When compiling my libra birthday list for the blog I knew some off the top of my head, but I didn’t know that Snoop was a LIBRA! Aside from him being a Steelers fan, this is just another reason for me to love him. Snoop is a triple OG in the rap game and aside from his music is known for calling the guys nephew. I mean he has changed his name to Snoop Lion, but I’ll always know him as Snoop Dogg.

Since his first studio release in 1993, Snoop has gone on to release a total of 12 solo albums, with over 30 million records sold. While he’s popular in the game, award wise he has yet to win one although he’s been nominated 16 times. He has won an AMA and a BET Award. Aside from music, Snoop has a YouTube channel GGN News that has over 1 million subscribers and almost 350 million views. CLICK HERE to check out the latest.

Drake VS Lil Wayne Tour Trailer

drake-vs-lil-wayne-tourDrake and Lil Wayne are getting ready to hit the road next week to begin their 31-city tour, “Drake Vs. Lil Wayne”. There has been a video released for the upcoming ‘battle’ as Sage (Lil Wayne) versus the Protege (Drake). Say what you want about their music, BUT this show is sure to be one for the books. To have two rappers of the caliber of Drake and Lil Wayne on stage,at the same time, going song for song, is going to be a sight to see. Check out the clip below:

Iggy Azalea Sets a Record & Ed Sheeran Tops Billboard 200

Iggy Azalea has been holding down the #1 spot on the Hot 100 with ‘Fancy’ and even if her track were to fall off next week it wouldn’t matter because SHE has set a record as the longest reigning female rapper on the Hot 100. With her reign reaching it’s 6th week she has surpassed Lil Kim who was in the top spot for 5 weeks for the ‘Lady Marmalade’ collab.

She’s living sky high right now. ‘Fancy’ and ‘Problem’ are doing well not only on the charts, but on the radio as well. She just performed at the BET Awards, yet social media is EGGING on a feud between her and Nicki Minaj. It was said that in Nicki’s speech for her win of Best Female Hip Hop Artist that she threw shots at Iggy Azalea who had performed previously before her win. In her speech Nicki said that if Nicki Minaj spits it, Nicki Minaj wrote it. As the crowd hyped her comment she went on to say “No, no shade, no shade.”

That sure did get an arousal out the crowd, but Iggy seems to not be bothered by it and Nicki Minaj tweeted there were no shots thrown at anyone.

The media puts words in my mouth all the time and this is no different. I will always take a stance on women b/c I believe in us!

I believe we’re smart enough to write down our own thoughts and perspective, just like the men do. I’ve been saying this for 5 YEARS

She went on to talk about how much she respected and admired Lauryn Hill and Missy Elliot before tweeting about Iggy:

I’ve congratulated Iggy on the success of Fancy, publicly. She should be very proud of that. All the women nominated should be proud.

Iggy went on to post her reaction to the whole thing via Instagram:

(via @thenewclassic)

I think the whole thing is being blown out of proportion, BUT all Nicki Mianj did was damage control. Nicki made that comment after Iggy’s performance and whether you congratulated someone publicly or not there was still hella shade in that comment she made and tweeting about it did not make the situation any better. Iggy clearly has no beef and wants no problems and I say hell, throw these two on a track together. Nicki could give Iggy pointers, who knows. The situation is over and done with and yes the media misconstrues all the time, but Nicki meant what she said and it doesn’t matter how much she talks about empowering women, shots were fired. How do you say “no shade, no shade” yet you weren’t throwing shots. No ones dumb here.

In other chart news, Ed Sheeran’s latest album, X, has debutd at #1 on the Billboard 200. The album sold 210,000 copies making him the largest debut for a pop album this year and the 4th largest opening in 2014.

Sam Smith’s, In The Lonely Hour, moves from #3 to #2 as Lana Del Rey’s, Ultraviolence drops three spots to #4. In at #3 is G-Eazy’s, These Things Happen. Frozen still remains in the top 10 rounding off the top 5.
