Welcome to another post here on the blog. I love finding great deals and this time of year is the PERFECT time to shop around as seasons are changing. Just about every store has some type of sale, deal, clearance, however you want to phrase it. I was able to score some pieces from Kohls and Forever 21 that I can wear now and even into the Spring. Of course, you can put my clearance shopping tips to use!
As always be sure to click the highlighted links throughout this post for related posts and links to purchase items/similar styles featured.
Hey everyone and welcome to another post here on the blog. I recently went on vacay to visit family and I couldn’t resist shopping a little. Plus, I finished grad school the week I was away, with an A in my last class, so that’s justification to TREAT MYSELF!

Spring has officially arrived, but living in the tri-state, we have haven’t had much of a winter. On Christmas the weather was in the 60s and we’ve only had one major snowstorm. I know, that should be a good thing right? This is not typical weather as a Jersey girl. This time last year I had been out of work at least one day a week for snow. The tides have truly turned over the course of the year. Let’s get into my staples for spring.Be sure to click all the highlighted links for related posts or to purchase items mentioned.
1.Denim| I thrifted a denim shirt last summer and I absolutely love it. I love the look of denim on denim. It wasn’t always a favorite of mine, but light wash denim paired together looks amazing. In addition to this shirt I love my denim jacket that I purchased from Forever 21 years ago. Denim just screams jeans and while I’m on the hunt for a ripped pair, my shirt and jacket will due. Purchase similar styles below:
2.Canvas Sneakers | I am no sneaker head although there are shoes I’d like to add to my collection. I am a sucker for canvas sneakers which you can find just about anywhere in a variety of colors and prints. I love to buy mine printed because they become an instant accessory to an outfit. While some stand out more than others I love a mixture of bold and muted prints. A muted print to me is a more classic floral. I have purchased mine from H&M & Charlotte Russe. I would recommend searching in store for more of a variety, but similar styles are listed below:
3. High-Top Converse | I absolutely love my converse and although I purchased the high-tops, I love rolling them down. With the weather getting warmer I have ditched my Timbs and I have been wearing these on a daily basis. I would love a white pair maybe even pink, maybe. Purchase HERE.
4. Graphic Tees | While this could be a year round staple, I love rocking my graphic tees in the spring. Fall is more for layering and winter is about being cozy. Summer time, I’m all about my tanks. Yet in the Spring, I find myself buying graphic tees and I love all types. I usually buy mine from either Spencers or Hot Topic, depending on the selection, when they have the buy 1 get 1 50% off. Don’t spend a lot of money on them, try thrifting. I have all types from comics to wrestling, music, and even the touristy ones. I don’t mind the cheesy graphic tee and I can’t wait to add more to my collection. Below are links to my favorite places to buy them:
Valentine’s Day is a few days away and you could be planning for a huge date, a night out with your friends, or relaxing at home. Whatever your plans, these outfits are great for someone planning last minute. No, you do not need to go out and buy an outfit when I’m pretty sure you have plenty of options in your closet.
These looks are simple to create and even if you planned on shopping for these items, they can be worn more than once. I love outfits that while they may have been purchased for a particular occasion, you can mix and match them year round. The looks below show how you can transform a day outfit to a night outfit in a matter of minutes.
Look 1 (Day) is the most casual out of the four and is great if you are running errands, hanging out with friends, or going on a casual date with that special someone. My favorite part of this look is definitely the shoes. I’m in love with the fringe VANS and while they are trendy there’s so many outfits you can create with them. As far as further layering I’d pair a bomber jacket to keep it super casual. Links to items are below:
Look 1 (Night) is the quickest and easiest way to dress up an outfit. Throw on a pair of pumps, and a different coat. I went with black pumps and a black long coat for this look. Also for the bag, use a black clutch. Lastly for a layered affect, add a sweater on top of the denim. I really love the look a sweater layered with any type of collared shirt. Super simple to turn the day time outfit in to a night outfit in a matter of minutes.
As for jewelry with both of these looks, for the day one that is more casual you could do a statement necklace if you choose or you can just go with rings. For the night option a nice watch would do. Links to items featured are below:
Look 2 (Day) is more dressed up, but it’s great for brunch with friends that can later lead to a date night. I went for a calf length body con dress with a slit on the side. I love the style of these dresses and they’re ultra sexy being at the calf length opposed to shorter. If you’re in a warmer climate you could easily pair this dress with a pair of converse or Nikes and call it a day, but if you’re in the colder climate I’d go for knee high boots day and night. For the day, simply put on a pair of black knee high boots and tie a flannel around your waist. Cute, yet casual. I loved how Ayesha Curry styled this look.
Look 2 (Night) is when you have to take this dress and up the ante. Regardless how cold it is, I love the strappy heels for this dress. You can pair it with the same black coat from Look 1 and the clutch. Having an all black look makes it easier for your makeup or if you’re just into a bold lip. This look has two options of shoes and the others are thigh high boots. Links to items featured are below:
Turning an outfit from day to night does not take much time. You’re really keeping the outfit the same, just layering here and there. A lot of these pieces can be worn more than once and do not have to be limited to just a Valentine’s Day purchase. Keep it simple and if you do plan on buying an outfit, buy something that’s interchangeable and will go a long ways in your wardrobe.
I don’t wear makeup often, but I love a bold lip. Below are a few of my favs that you can find just about anywhere. Happy Valentine’s Day!
After a major declutter of my accessories, I wanted to share parts of my collection. I’ve realized that I’m not really into statement rings or big earrings. I do love a statement necklace which I will be sharing entirely in this post. As for the rest of my collection, I’ll be picking and choosing a few of my favorite pieces. Be sure to click below for related posts:
I love statement necklaces because you can take the simplest outfit and dress it up. As I get older, I’ve purchased more statement pieces from H&M opposed to Forever 21. The H&M style appeals to me more and I’ve found great option in store and on major clearance. Shopping for statement pieces from Forever 21 would have to be online opposed to in store due to more variety. I love the trinket necklaces that I have from Forever 21 and I kept hem more so as a collectible since I don’t wear them often.
As I expand and tweak my statement necklace collection, I prefer silver over gold and I like the layered chain look. My friend gifted me the silver and lime green H&M necklace for Christmas one year and as simple as it is, it’s one of my absolute favorites. The layered look is my favorite style.
I have a couple long necklaces which are good to pair with cardigans for a more simplistic look, but I prefer necklaces that stop right at the middle of my chest. An outfit goes to another level once you pair the right statement necklace with it. I like to wear mine with either a collared shirt of my new favorite look for the season, the turtle neck.
Three of my favorite accessories aside from my necklaces would have to be my Gucci watch, my praying hands ring, and my silver charm bracelet. Each of these have sentimental value to me.
My mother gifted me the praying hands ring when I was in high school and I was careless when I received it. I went outside in the snow with my ring on and I ended up stepping on it and it was too bent for me to wear. My grandmother took it for quite sometime and re-gifted it to me on my 21st birthday. On top of that she gifted a Gucci watch that was my mothers as well. Both gifts are priceless.
I graduated from high school in 2009 and the silver charm bracelet is reminiscent of that. The organization I was a part of in church gifted it to each other girls and it has our names and graduation years. I don’t wear it as often as I used to, but I still love it.
Below are links to few styles of necklaces that I’d like to add to my collection:
My handbags and accessories are an area, similar to my pantry, that I’ve hesitated to declutter. I’ve had no problem getting rid of things in my closet, but when it coms to my handbags especially, it’s difficult. A lot of my jewelry from Forever 21, H&M, etc., has been accumulated over the years, but I don’t really wear it. The main purpose of this declutter was to keep what I absolutely loved, donate what I didn’t use, and to toss any broken jewelry that I had hoarded.
I kept telling myself that I wasn’t going to shop before I went on vacation, yet I walked into H&M and they were having a sale. I didn’t pick up much and all items that I will show were under $100, but seriously, no more shopping until vacation.
From H&M I picked up 2 necklaces, 2 sets of midi rings, a purse, and the best buy of all, a scarf. The two necklaces I purchased were a total of $10, if purchased full price I would have spent $24.95. Awesome savings. As for the midi rings one set was $3.95 which I purchased of $1 and the other was $5.95 which I purchased for $3. The scarf was my favorite purchase of all as it was only $1. Yes, $1. It was originally $12.95, marked down to $7, then $3, and then $1. I couldn’t leave it behind and I can’t wait to style it in the fall. The only item I purchased full price was a purse that was $40. There was a similar style on sale for $20, but the olive green color I could not pass up. Hey, it’s okay to treat yourself every now and then and I’d rather purchase a bag I love then to settle for one I like. Check out the items below:
From Forever 21 I purchased a shirt, in one of my favorite colors, and I like to call it business in the front, party in the back. The shirt is so chic and although it has a huge slit in the back, it’s not much and it’s kind of a high-low, very slightly. Love, love, love this and it was only $12.95.
Lastly I picked up a pair of earrings from Aldo (pictured above). I went in to purchase my sister some things for her 8th Grade Dinner Dance and they were having a sale, buy 3 get 25% off. I picked up a pair of gold aztec type earring for $8.50, with the 25% off. In total I spent a little over $50 which was great considering one of the items I purchased was $40.
I can’t wait to style the pieces that I purchased and be on the lookout for future posts featuring these items. Check out my YouTube, LakiaBTV, and follow me on Instagram @ChaoticCritic.
In this edition, as stated in the title, I wanted to showcase my sandal collection. Now the thing about sandals is that I wear the hell out of them in the Summer. I buy some that are on trend, but some I’ve had for years and other than the inside sole having wear and tear, the sandals are still in great condition. As for sandals I still want to purchase, I want a pair of gladiators that come to about the knee and a pair of cognac sandals. I never realized just how much I love the cognac color.
As for how I store my sandals, being that I only bring them out in late Spring I store them in a bin. Nothing fancy. I do keep the sandals that I frequently wear on top and eventually they end up straggled around my room. When it comes to comfortability, I would say majority of them are comfortable.
The one that irks me the most are the ones from Forever 21, which you can see below. the sole is not a soft bottom and makes a click clack sound similar to a heel. It’s also very slippery so I don’t wear them often. I had a black pair that I absolutely loved, but they ended up breaking, so I was lucky to find a similar style at Old Navy which I featured in a haul (click HERE for that).
My favorite pairs would have to be the ones I purchased from Easy Pickins, Traffic, and the flip flops from Target. The ones from Easy Pickins have a tassel that’s still not trend and I purchased them 3 years ago. The ones from Traffic are so beautiful and I get compliments every time I wear them. The flip flops from Target have the most wear and tear on the inside sole, which is to be expected since I’ve worn them like no tomorrow. They were the best impulse buy and I purchased them about 3 or 4 years ago after watching an Akaydoll video. I typically don’t like to spend over $25 on a pair of sandals simply because there are so many variations and I don’t wear them year round like other shoes. The ones that I purchased from Traffic were the most expensive, nearly $40, but I expected that due to the design of them.

I’ve become a fan of the oversized hat and while some may find it trendy, it’s become a staple in my wardrobe. Then again, I’m not always daring enough to wear it. It’s warming up hear on the East Coast, and I decided to put my hat to the test. Granted I received stares, I suppose to to its enormous size, but I love it and I can’t wait to find more styling options. The look I put together was the typical all black everything. I purchased the hat from H&M, and there are still variations of the wool hat available on the site. Next up I need an oversized beach hat, but that’s an OOTD for another time. Check out the details below.
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!! Today is a really gloomy day in the tri-state so my outfit matched the weather outside. I still love the beauty of snow. I don’t have major plans for today so I spent it hanging out with my sisters. My outfit is super simple and features items I have hauled here on the blog before. Outfit details under the pic. Plus check out my V-Day Playlist below with a little bit of this and a little bit of that.
