Single Review: Britney Spears x Iggy Azalea, ‘Pretty Girls’

Britney-Spears-and-Iggy-Azalea-cover-for-the-duos-Pretty-Girls-collaborationPictures surfaced of a video shoot for Britney Spears upcoming single featuring Iggy Azalea that was to be titled ‘Pretty Girls.’ The pictures were quite interesting based off the tacky attire. Well fans waiting for a Britney comeback get their wish as the track has surfaced and that means that the video has to be on its way.

Britney hasn’t released any new music since Britney Jean in 2013. That album spawned the chart topper ‘Work Bitch.’ What couldve been a sure comeback didn’t get much buzz past that single. Her album before that, 2011s Femme Fatale had more buzz with hits: ‘Hold It Against Me,’ ‘Till The World Ends,’ and ‘I Wanna Go.’ Well she’s back and is teaming up with 2014 superstar Iggy Azalea. The track could be a huge smash or a flop. I wasn’t expecting much from it, but I’m impressed from what I’ve heard.

When the track began I instantly thought Gwen Stefani. Speaking of, both she and Fergie had less than stellar comebacks. The tone that Britney said the hook to the song over the beat reminded me of ‘Hollaback Girl.’ Not musically, just how it was said. The beat switched up a little bit as the song went on, but I’m not the biggest fan of it. It sounded more promising in the beginning of the song.

The lyrics are suitable and catchy enough for me to sing along to.

All around the world, pretty girls
Jump the line, to the front
Do what we like, get what we want
We’re just so pretty!

How could you not keep up with lyrics like that? Britney goes on to sing about how the predictable men are and how amazing women are. Guys have the same rotation and chase the “pretty girls” (pun intended). The lyrics are pretty basic, but this is a radio friendly song so they don’t need to be complex.

Iggy merges 3 tracks: ‘Killing Me Softly,’ ‘One More Chance,’ and ‘…Baby One More Time’ in her rhymes. She’s pretty clever in her raps although people just slaughter her on social media. Her bars worked and fit the flow of the song. I’m interested in hearing some new solo music from Iggy Igz.

Don’t expect to see Britney performing this track full out anytime soon since she’s currently injured due to a slip during her Vegas residency. As for fans that have yet to see her, she’s extended her show, Britney: Piece of Me, for an additional three months.

Iggy Azalea’s, ‘Fancy’, Declared 3x Platinum

iggy-azalea-fancy-plaqueIggy Azalea stormed the Today Show and performed  ‘Work’ and her summer smash, ‘Fancy’, which has been declared triple platinum. With over 3 million copies sold Iggy has become a household name with her infectious track.

‘Fancy’ was released February 17, 2014 and five months later on July 27th it was declared triple platinum. The that it took to get to #1 is similar to that of Nicki Minaj‘s, ‘Starships’,which was released on February 14, and was declared triple platinum on August 16, 2012. Iggy has reached the mark a hare faster and she was able to lock down the Hot 100 for seven weeks.

She also confirmed that she will be performing her new single, ‘Black Widow’, alongside Rita Ora at this years VMAs LIVE August 24th at 8pm on MTV.

Iggy Azalea Sets a Record & Ed Sheeran Tops Billboard 200

Iggy Azalea has been holding down the #1 spot on the Hot 100 with ‘Fancy’ and even if her track were to fall off next week it wouldn’t matter because SHE has set a record as the longest reigning female rapper on the Hot 100. With her reign reaching it’s 6th week she has surpassed Lil Kim who was in the top spot for 5 weeks for the ‘Lady Marmalade’ collab.

She’s living sky high right now. ‘Fancy’ and ‘Problem’ are doing well not only on the charts, but on the radio as well. She just performed at the BET Awards, yet social media is EGGING on a feud between her and Nicki Minaj. It was said that in Nicki’s speech for her win of Best Female Hip Hop Artist that she threw shots at Iggy Azalea who had performed previously before her win. In her speech Nicki said that if Nicki Minaj spits it, Nicki Minaj wrote it. As the crowd hyped her comment she went on to say “No, no shade, no shade.”

That sure did get an arousal out the crowd, but Iggy seems to not be bothered by it and Nicki Minaj tweeted there were no shots thrown at anyone.

The media puts words in my mouth all the time and this is no different. I will always take a stance on women b/c I believe in us!

I believe we’re smart enough to write down our own thoughts and perspective, just like the men do. I’ve been saying this for 5 YEARS

She went on to talk about how much she respected and admired Lauryn Hill and Missy Elliot before tweeting about Iggy:

I’ve congratulated Iggy on the success of Fancy, publicly. She should be very proud of that. All the women nominated should be proud.

Iggy went on to post her reaction to the whole thing via Instagram:

I think the whole thing is being blown out of proportion, BUT all Nicki Mianj did was damage control. Nicki made that comment after Iggy’s performance and whether you congratulated someone publicly or not there was still hella shade in that comment she made and tweeting about it did not make the situation any better. Iggy clearly has no beef and wants no problems and I say hell, throw these two on a track together. Nicki could give Iggy pointers, who knows. The situation is over and done with and yes the media misconstrues all the time, but Nicki meant what she said and it doesn’t matter how much she talks about empowering women, shots were fired. How do you say “no shade, no shade” yet you weren’t throwing shots. No ones dumb here.

MOVING ON —

In other chart news, Ed Sheeran’s latest album, X, has debutd at #1 on the Billboard 200. The album sold 210,000 copies making him the largest debut for a pop album this year and the 4th largest opening in 2014.

Sam Smith’s, In The Lonely Hour, moves from #3 to #2 as Lana Del Rey’s, Ultraviolence drops three spots to #4. In at #3 is G-Eazy’s, These Things Happen. Frozen still remains in the top 10 rounding off the top 5.

Album Review: The New Classic (Deluxe Edition)

iggy-new-classic-cover

After months and what seems what years of a delay, Iggy Azalea has released her debut album The New Classic. Is her debut to be considered classic? I wouldn’t necessarily call it that, but I am pleased with the content on it although some of it was redundant. Let’s get into my top 5 (in no particular order):

  • ‘Black Widow’ (feat. Rita Ora)
  • ‘Bounce’
  • ‘Fancy’ (Charli XCX)
  • ‘Rolex’
  • ‘Work’

If I had to choose ONE song as my favorite it would come down to ‘Fancy’. I know a lot of songs I chose were songs she’s previously released, minus ‘Rolex’, but there really hasn’t been an Iggy song released that I haven’t liked. Well I lied, her collab with Keyshia Cole (‘I’m Coming Out’) was horrid. Moving on I liked the flow of the album. She talks life, love, and how fab she is which is what you would expect. Lyrically songs did sound similar, lyrically, such as ‘Don’t Need Y’all’, ‘Walk the Line’, and ‘Work’.

‘Rolex’ is one of my favorites because lyrically I love a song when an artist talks about a past love. In this case Iggy was speaking of her ex, A$AP Rocky.

I got you tatted / You took off before the ink dried on my hand.

Incase you didn’t know, Iggy used to have a tattoo of A$VP on the outside of her left pinky finger. Out of all the songs that are on the album I feel that this one is most personal.

Overall I think this album is a great debut. I am really impressed and have become a HUGE fan of Iggy Azalea. Again as far as this being a classic, eh I’m not sure about that. She’s come a LONG way within a year and I’m glad that her debut did not get swept under the rug. ‘Fancy’ is what capitalized on her career and it’s a song that works with her voice. I absolutely love it. Take a listen to the album below (via Spotify):

Video Review: Iggy Azalea x Charlie XCX, ‘Fancy’

I have been anticipating this video once Iggy leaked that it would have a Clueless theme. First off this is by far my favorite Iggy track thus far and I will be doing an album review once her duet project drops in April. On to the video, I’m very impressed. Iggy has been one to give great visuals and with each video it just gets better and better. Despite what people think of her rapping style of rap plus the debates on whether she is Hip Hop or not her visuals are on point.

At first I was trying to figure out what Clueless had to do with the song, but the song is bragging about how much of a BOSS Iggy is and the standards of her life and Clueless fits that. She reenacted classic scenes from Clueless such as Dionne’s driving lesson. The wardrobe was on POINT as well. Clueless top notch with the fashion and beauty. The choreography wasn’t really needed. Kudos to Iggy on this one. Whether you think that the song related or not, mute the music and peep the visual.
