OOTD #16: Flashback to Vacay + Mini Haul

Over the Summer I headed to Atlanta for a long weekend vacation. I went from a Thursday to a Sunday plus I took off that Wednesday before I left and Monday after my return from work. Being in Atlanta for 3 1/2 days was more than enough time and I was able to see and do a lot while I was there. The first day I enjoyed the luxury of the hotel in the pent house suite and took full advantage of the gym. That Friday I went took a tour of the Center for Civil and Human Rights and visited the gift shops of the Coca-Cola Factory and the College Football Hall of Fame. Although we did not rent a car, thankfully everything was in walking distance. Saturday I met with a friend that lives in the area and we went out for drinks and Mexican food. Talk about AMAZING!

I wanted to share my outfit and goodies that I purchased while I was away. The outfit that I wore during the day I went sightseeing was a pair of shorts from JCPenny that I purchased nearly 3 years ago that I barely wear and a new top that has a slit in the back from Forever 21. The top I featured in a haul which you can check out HERE.

The accessories that I wore were a pair of sandals from Charlotte Russe. I wasn’t sure how I wanted to style them when I purchased them, but they worked well with the outfit. My purse I had purchased from Aldo a while back and it looks like a camera and fits my Canon T4i PERFECTLY. I did take the lens off for it to fit, but most of the time it was around my neck. I loved the look. Simple, yet super cute. Check out my sandals in my Spring haul HERE.

As for what I purchased while on vacation, it wasn’t much. The College Football Hall of Fame didn’t have a great selection so I ended up with a wristband and a mousepad, yes a mousepad. From the Center for Civil and Human Rights the tour was amazing, but I only picked up a few post cards. From the Coca-Cola factory I was tempted to buy everything. Anything you could imagine from shirts to laptop cases, hats, etc. were covered in the Coca-Cola logo. I just purchased a surprise pack after buying gifts for my sisters. Lastly, it would be a touristy trip if I didn’t get a shirt that said Atlanta. Great trip, only downside, the never ending traffic. Beautiful airport as well.

Video Review: Janelle Monae, ‘Electric Lady’

Janelle Monae has released the video for her track ‘Electric Lady’ off her latest album, The Electric Lady, which was released September of 2013. Let’s get into the review.

Introducting … Electro Phi Beta from South Atlanta.

Untitled3

Janelle Monae is getting ready to head out with her Soros. She takes a pic of her ladies on her fancy Samsung watch which of course links to her phone, she jumps in the car (a Cadillac) and pops in this cool ‘Electric Lady’ 8-track and the next stop is the Sorority House. UntitledThere’s a party going on (duh) and near the end of the video it hints at it being a bit of a Probate introducing new members into Electro Phi Beta. The albumni of the Sorority that were skyped in on the wall (so cute) were: T-Boz, Esperanza Spalding, Estelle, Monica, and Kimbra.
Untitled2The party goes on as this fraternity rolls in and they get there dance on with this choreo that I keep playing back so I can learn it all. It gets later and later and Janelle breaks into rap and then the Neos. I assume they’re Neo’s as their faces are covered with cool futuristic (oversized) visors and their shirts are numbered. [For those who don’t know, Neos are the abbreviation of Neophytes which are new pledges in a sorority/fraternity.]4 Just when you think it’s over, here comes the cameo from the King of the South, T.I., with his baseball cap, ‘Blurred Lines’ two step, and a red solo cup. Lastly, shoot to the outside where the band comes and there’s Majorette Monae.

Janelle Monae is just so gorgeous in this video. She sticks to the black and white and adds a pop of color with her pink crop top. Her letterman jacket is super dope with the quilted sleeves, JM monogram, and Electric Lady embroidered on the back. Then as majorette she sticks to the same black and white outfit except with her purple hat & cape. Her HAIR, boy that fro.

I give this video a 5/5 for sure. I haven’t been rating videos lately, but this one sure deserves it. So much though and concept behind it. This has been on a favs list before, but here it is nearly a year later back on top of my rotation. Major props for this one.

This is a super DOPE video and too bad Solange isn’t it. She would’ve been great as the DJ at the party.

MMF Celebrates Black History in Music, Feb. 8

On February 8, 2004, Outkast won Album of the Year at the 46th Annual Grammy Awards making their album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, the second hip-hop album to win in that category. Here is their acceptance speech for that award:

Speakerboxxx/The Love Below was released as a dual album on, September 23,2003, and featured hits ‘The Way You Move’ and ‘Hey Ya!’ The album was an interesting release showcasing Big Boi and Andre 3000 as solo artists for the first time in their careers.  The album has gone on to be certified diamond and 11 times platinum by the RIAA. At the 46th Annual Grammy Awards (2004) three out of its six nominations. In addition to winning Album of the Year the album also won Best Rap Album and Best Urban/Alternative Performance for ‘Hey Ya!’

Here’s the Grammy performance of ‘Hey Ya’:

Outkast went on to release a movie and album of the same name Idlewild which had a similar set up to Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. They took somewhat of a break after that and Big Boi went on to release two solo albums, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty (2010) and Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors (2012), while Andre 3000 went to do features no tracks with artists such as: Ke$ha, Rick Ross, T.I., and countless others.

This year not only marks 10 years since their big win at the Grammys, but also 20 years since the release of their album, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik (1994). They will be headlining both Gov Ball (NYC) and Coachella (Cali) this year along with other festivals along the way. No word on new music yet, but I’ll be waiting.

Andre 3000 always said when he got back to it, it would be with Big Boi. The duo has been on a hiatus for quite some time. Both have went on to so separate projects, but fans have been WAITING on another Andre 3000 solo album.

Well it might not be a solo album that fans have been anticipating but an Outkast reunion is FINALLY happening. The duo will be headlining Coachella on April 11th and 18th in Indio, California and NYCs Governor’s Ball the weekend of June 6-8 at Randal Island’s Park.

So why a reunion now? Well OutKast is celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut. No hoax with these shows. Big Boi sent a tweet confirming the Coachella shows and that more was in store for the duo.
