Future [Double Play]

UntitledHonest hits stores this Tuesday (4.22) and I thought it would be fitting to do a Future Double Play. Future has released his collab with Andre 3000 and the video for his track with Kanye West. It wasn’t that hard to pick my favorite of the two being that he collaborated with two of my favorite rappers. There was just one song I was feeling more than the other.

First off the Andre 3000 track. It’s titled, ‘Benz Friendz (WHATCHTOLA)’. Interesting title for a song, very ATL. The vibe of the track is ok, I would’ve preferred a better beat, but as the song played on it grew on me. Not an instant love, but not a bad collab. Lyrically I was expecting more, but the song has really grown on me.

Listen to the track below:

Next up is his collab with Kanye. When I first heard about it I didn’t bother to listen. I don’t know why the visual made me change my mind, I guess I was just curious. I really like the vibe of this song. I had to do a double take in the beginning of the video when the girl was getting her Beyonce baby boy beach scene on. Future had a crisp cardigan on and Kanye kept it basic, but of course he couldn’t talk about winning without mentioning his soon-to-be wife, Kim K. How sweet of him to shout out his soon-to-be sisters as well. Really like this track although I have to listen closely to understand all of what Future was saying while he was rapping. Check out the video below:

MMF Celebrates Black History in Music, Feb. 8

On February 8, 2004, Outkast won Album of the Year at the 46th Annual Grammy Awards making their album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, the second hip-hop album to win in that category. Here is their acceptance speech for that award:

Speakerboxxx/The Love Below was released as a dual album on, September 23,2003, and featured hits ‘The Way You Move’ and ‘Hey Ya!’ The album was an interesting release showcasing Big Boi and Andre 3000 as solo artists for the first time in their careers.  The album has gone on to be certified diamond and 11 times platinum by the RIAA. At the 46th Annual Grammy Awards (2004) three out of its six nominations. In addition to winning Album of the Year the album also won Best Rap Album and Best Urban/Alternative Performance for ‘Hey Ya!’

Here’s the Grammy performance of ‘Hey Ya’:

Outkast went on to release a movie and album of the same name Idlewild which had a similar set up to Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. They took somewhat of a break after that and Big Boi went on to release two solo albums, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty (2010) and Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors (2012), while Andre 3000 went to do features no tracks with artists such as: Ke$ha, Rick Ross, T.I., and countless others.

This year not only marks 10 years since their big win at the Grammys, but also 20 years since the release of their album, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik (1994). They will be headlining both Gov Ball (NYC) and Coachella (Cali) this year along with other festivals along the way. No word on new music yet, but I’ll be waiting.

OutKast to HEADLINE Coachella & Gov Ball

Andre 3000 always said when he got back to it, it would be with Big Boi. The duo has been on a hiatus for quite some time. Both have went on to so separate projects, but fans have been WAITING on another Andre 3000 solo album.

Well it might not be a solo album that fans have been anticipating but an Outkast reunion is FINALLY happening. The duo will be headlining Coachella on April 11th and 18th in Indio, California and NYCs Governor’s Ball the weekend of June 6-8 at Randal Island’s Park.

So why a reunion now? Well OutKast is celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut. No hoax with these shows. Big Boi sent a tweet confirming the Coachella shows and that more was in store for the duo.

I can’t wait to see what else they have in store! Check here for more updates.
