Okay, I know I’m not the only one that waits until the last minute when it comes to whipping projects together. It’s like after Christmas, January goes by in a blur and then BOOM it’s February. You don’t have much time to really enjoy all the balloons and chocolate since it lands smack in the middle of the month.
Still, I thought I’d share the projects I put together. One is for my Valentine tree (yes I’m keeping it festive), but you could use as a gift tag, and the other is a DIY planner clip.

This is literally the fastest project I’ve ever created. My grandmother showed me a pin that someone had made out of a felt heart. We lucked up and found similar hearts at Michaels. They came in a pack of 12 regularly priced at $5. Michaels had all Valentine’s items for $2.50. We paid $10 for for 4 boxes.
As for the full list:
- Jumbo Felt Hearts
- Hot Glue
- Ribbon (Red, Black, White – VDAY themed)
- Jumbo Paper Clips
To make the gift tags, I put a dab of hot glue in the center of the heart, cut a piece of ribbon, created a loop, and done. See, that easy. I did this for both the smaller and larger hearts. The larger hearts had phrases like ‘XoXo,’ ‘Be Mine,’ and ‘I Love you.’ This project took literally seconds.
While I plan on using them on my Valentine tree, gift tags are the perfect alternative. tape the ribbon and to box of candy and just like that, your gift is done. It doesn’t get easier than that!
For an added embellishment I did put ribbon on the end of a bow just to see how it looked. You could leave it as is with the ribbon on top or hot glue some jewels, add lace, etc.
Creating the planner clips was similar to how I made the tags, except I used a clip instead of the ribbon. I first tried to just use one heart and hot glued the clip right on the back. Aside from it not having a clean finish, I didn’t want to add a piece of felt and have to cut to size. I also tried to layer two hearts on top of each other. Yeah, that was a fail.
Instead, I took another heart and glued it on the back, basically sandwiching the paperclip in between the felt. Quick, easy, and so adorable. I prefer the smaller hearts than the jumbo ones. The jumbo clips will actually be able to be used in your planner and just like that another successful DIY.
Many of my projects are self explanatory, which is why I add videos. I think it’s never too late to share an idea that pops into your head. The best part about these Valentine tags and clips is that they’ll work all year round. I mean, it doesn’t have to be February to rock a heart.
