Is Prince Harry getting married really the cause of an impromptu blog post? HELL YEAH?! Like most people I checked my social media this morning (Instagram in particular) and I saw that Harry had indeed proposed to his girlfriend, actress Meghan Markle. Why am I so excited? Oh, I don’t know. I’ve only gushed over Harry from how handsome he is to his infectious personality. Out of all the royalty, he’s definitely my fav. He’s officially off the market with his Spring 2018 wedding on the way.
I get excited over the happiness that others have. When you watch a celebrity, someone in the spotlight, live their best lives how can you not be excited! I remember when Prince William married Kate back in 2011 and Harry was right by his side. The future King’s family is growing and seeing how Harry interacts with people, children especially it was just a matter of time before he settled down to have a family of his own.
After watching his interview with Meghan I couldn’t help but stare in awe at the way they looked at each other. It was pure happiness and they’re head over heels for each other. It must be also be a relief for the world to finally know since he proposed three weeks ago. Yet, they did it on their time. He proposed when it was just the two of them. Their terms, their way.
The two have only been together since 2016 and here they are preparing to get married. That alone goes to show that you do not have to spend years with someone to understand them and see how you relate. They expressed that they spent many nights alone discussing what they’re passionate about. It’s something to take note of with being in the limelight. Prince Harry is in a completely different realm of limelight, and Meghan has shine of their own, but when you want to make something work you just do. Forget the tabloids, rumors, and all the people that want to see you fail. Make it work!
Let’s address the elephant in the room, for some people. Yes, Meghan Markle is half black. Yes, she’s American marrying into THE Royal Family. Yes, Meghan Markle is half-black. Just incase you missed that the first time. Oh and let me not forget to mention that she’s been divorced. Clearly, Prince Harry looks at her as the person that she is, not her race. Oh, if only the rest of the world would see things that way. There is also the point that the Royal Family isn’t bothered by her ethnicity since Harry isn’t going to be King.
Being half-black and half-white is something Meghan Markle has had to deal with all her life. As an actress and wanting certain roles she spoke about not being “black enough.” Then there’s the other side of her not being “white enough.” In our society, the emphasis that is put on race is disheartening (as she put it). It really is. The fact that you can’t look past someone for the color of their skin and actually get to know them. There’s instant judgement from the start.
The way that Harry and Meghan look at each other. The way the smile and gaze into each other’s eyes. The fact that they have ignored the media. I mean, there were rumors of engagement, but they kept it to themselves and announced it THREE weeks later. For all those that want the ‘happily ever after’ truly get to know someone. Spend personal, one on one time together, and see where you connect.
Cheers to the newly engaged Prince Harry and Meghan Markle!
