Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
I know I’m not the only one scrambling to get my house semi-decent for company. I feel like the holiday season is when everyone cleans strives to keep their homes clean for entertaining, but throughout the year that may not be the case. I spent this past weekend deep cleaning my downstairs and I still have things to do. One thing in particular, such as cleaning my bathroom right before company arrives, is on my list. Although I do this regularly, I want it to be in tip top shape. This post is all about my Power Hour tips, plus a playlist of videos to get you motivated. Ready, set, crush the chaos!

What is a Power Hour
Set a timer on your phone and literally go through your house cleaning whatever in just an hour. You’ll be surprised at how much you get done. Put on some music, an audiobook, hell a YouTube video and get busy!
Keep in mind that this Power Hour is not for organizing or deep cleaning. That’s another project. It’s about putting things back in their homes or a central location until you can go through it another time. I’m using this power hour to spruce up my space, that’s it.
Areas I’m Focusing On
High traffic areas are the focus of my speed cleaning. I am taking an hour to go through my entire downstairs including:
- Living Room
- Dining Room
- Kitchen
- Entry Way
- Bathroom
This Thanksgiving is going to be a little bit larger in my home, it may not be large number for other people. I know some that have up to 50 in their homes on Thanksgiving. This year I’ll have 10 (see not that many), two of which are my 8 and 4 year old nephews. There’s a lot that I’m moving to my hallway storage closet to make space downstairs. I want to keep it as open as possible so everyone has room to move around and sit comfortably.
Game Plan
While the focus is making extra space, my downstairs has become a bit crowded. I admit, I come home and leave my shoes by the front door instead of taking them to my bedroom. My entry way does not have much space for hanging coats, so all of mine end up on the banister. I have a corner next to wear I sit on the couch where a mug or cup always lands on top of my games. Then there’s just corners of stuff that piles up and no matter how much I clean them, it goes back to the mess. Seriously, a new system needs to be put in place.
As to what has to get done no if’s, and’s or but’s:
- Vacuuming & mopping
- Clean dining & buffet tables
- Extra Seating
- Space for Guests Jackets
- Clean bathroom
Once I get the vacuuming and mopping out the way I’ll pretty much be done. The bathroom is the last thing I do because once I’m done cleaning, I’ll hop in the shower and get ready for the day.
The cleaning I want to do is not all going to get done today. It’s just not going to happen because for one there’s not enough time and two, I really don’t feel like it. It’s been a long week and I’m ready to relax with family and stuff my face. Of course football and a movie are on the menu. (Thankfully my team isn’t playing #Steelernation).
Love power hours!
Sometimes you need one to simply reset.
