I was pondering whether or not to write about Beyoncè‘s latest single ‘Formation.’ It’s all over Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, etc. It’s everywhere. I mean, it’s BEYONCÈ (Oprah voice). No this isn’t a video review. While the visual was dope, I wanted to focus more so on the lyrics.
First off the vibe of this video is INFECTIOUS, typical Beyoncè swag. Sasha Fierce might have fizzled out, but SLAYONCÈ is here to stay. I love how she is so free in her music these days that she can talk about anything and based off her name alone, it’s viral. This is not ‘7/11.’ Nope, not ‘Drunk In Love’ or ‘Partition.’ This is ‘Flawless’ on another level.
The Mike Will Made It beat works, but let’s get into her BARS shall we:
I like my baby’s hair with baby hair and afros.
I dream it, I work hard, I grind till I own it.
I twirl on my haters.
Sometimes I go off, I go hard. Take what’s mine, I’m a star.
I just might be a black Bill Gates in the making.
You know you that b*tch when you cause all this conversation.
And my favorite BAR of all:
Always stay gracious best revenge is your paper.
She’s never been a stranger to expressing how she feels in her music and you really get to see who she is as a person more and more as she evolves as an artist. I just love the message that she’s putting across in this song. It’s time for ladies to stand up and it goes beyond being a woman. It’s time to stand together as people. To slay is to be a boss. To be in charge of your life. To go for what you want. Don’t stop because of the odds stacked against you. Push through and do you.
Putting into words how I feel about this song/video just doesn’t do this post any justice. The vibe of this, the gutta of this, the SLAYONCÈ of this. It’s beyond it being another Beyoncè production. It’s beyond her having a new track. This right here has a whole different vibe and I’m excited to see hear what’s next. Now let the rotation continue.
