Single Review: Fergie, ‘L.A. Love (la la)’

After an eight year hiatus Fergie has teamed up with one of the hottest yet redundant producers, Dj Mustard. All respect to DJ Mustard, but aside from his catchphrase [Mustard on the beat hoe], a lot of his beats are nearly identical. Despite the constant similar sound, I really love the vibe of this track and the more I hear Fergie the more I realize she’s a singing rapper. Like she can hold a note, but she talks more so than sings in her songs.

As for this track, I LOVE the beat first off. It’s hard not to like a Mustard beat. The only thing I really don’t like is the hook, which is also the title of the song. This could make its way to the radio simply because of the beat, but the lyrics are nothing spectacular. I just really like Fergie’s flow on the track. Flow as far as her vibe. As for what she’s saying, I honestly don’t care.

The real question is, did this live up to the hype of her return? Eh, not really. When I first saw the cover art I was instantly intrigued, BUT when I listened to it within the first 30 seconds I turned it off. It wasn’t horrible, it just didn’t catch my attention. Overall, the beat will take the track to the next level, along with proper marketing. Still interested in hearing what else Fergie will bring to the table, including a ballad.
