Original v. Cover [V.4]: D’Angelo, ‘Untitled (How Does It Feel)’

Before I get into this edition of Original v. Cover be sure to catch up with my previous ones by clicking the links below:

Adam Levine and Usher recently covered D’Angelo’s ‘Untitled (How Does It Feel)’ during the season finale of “The Voice” (5.19). Now in my previous editions the original has reigned supreme, but I think this has to be the worst cover of them all. This is not the type of song I ever expected Adam to do.

I honestly am not pleased with his current choice of hair color either. Back to brown please. Despite that vocally this just didn’t do it for me. Usher held his weight in this one, but vocally this was a difficult song to cover due to the amazing strength and versatility that D’Angelo displayed. Listen to the original below:

I would have preferred for Usher to have done this by himself. As much as I am over his boring dance routines that he currently does. I won’t say that vocally the entire cover was all wrong because it wasn’t. This just happened to be a song that was a solo type effort rather than a duet. I think that Usher should’ve sang, Adam play the guitar and do background when need be. It wasn’t horrible just spotty in certain areas. Vocally D’Angelo wins this one, hands down. Check out Adam and Usher’s rendition below:
