Clear Channel’s, iHeartRadio, has become this distinct app that people (with the latest smart phone) can download the app and listen to any radio station regardless of location and create custom lists based off a particular artist/genre. Well the iHeartRadio Music Awards are heading to the big screen, the big screen being television. The iHeartRadio Music Awards will air LIVE on NBC May 1st from 8pm-11pm EST. The 3 hour showcase live performances along with never before seen duets and award presentations. The top artist and songs of the year will be determined by the new iHeartRadio chart.
Tom Poleman, President of National Programming Platforms for Clear Channel Media and Entertainment had this to say about the new iHeart Radio chart:
What’s unique about the iHeartRadio chart, countdown and awards is that all three are squarely focused on what the listener wants. For the first time, these three interconnected programs have shifted the power of how we measure an artist’s success — and, in turn, what’s heard on the radio and celebrated with awards — to the critically important listener.
The award show will feature 13 categories and as of right now each category features 10 nominees. The categories are: Best Lyrics, Best Collaboration, Country Song of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Fan Army, Song of the Year, EDM Song of the Year, Hip Hop/R&B Song of the Year, Alternative Rock Song of the Year, Best New Artist, and more. Listeners can vote here (via Twitter/Facebook) and the voting will last over a a 4-week period and the final nominees will be announced in a one hour live event on March 26th live from the iHeartRadio theater in Los Angeles.
Paul Telegdy, President of Alternative and Late Night Programming NBC Entertainment, had this to say about airing the award show:
Collaborating with a company that has the global reach of Clear Channel allows us to interact with music fans all over the world. We feel fortunate being on the ground floor of the iHeartRadio Music Awards, which will deliver an array of great performances from today’s biggest stars.
