Bruno Mars, Super Bowl XLVIII, Halftime Review

Let me first start by saying that I was semi-excited to know Bruno was performing at the Super Bowl, but I did raise my eyebrows at the fact that he would be bringing out the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Now, nothing against their music I was just curious to how it would all pan out.

The set opened with a children’s choir/chorus singing his part of ‘Billionaire’ and he came out SLAYING the drums over ‘Locked out of Heaven.’ From that he segued into ‘Treasure,’ then to a modern Temptaions break down as he chanted “A little bit softer now / a little bit louder now” during his track ‘Runaway Baby.’ It was then that he brought out Red Hot Chilli Peppers who performed ‘Give It Away’ fit in perfectly with Bruno’s stage presence and energy. The style was completely different, but musically it all worked. He ended his set with a stream of fireworks and ‘Just the Way You Are.’

I absolutely loved the energy of the set and how everything just seemed to go by so fast. The music flowed so well together that the changing of songs was flawless. He started on a high note and ended with one of his biggest hits. Great choice for a halftime performer and he surpassed my expectations. I can only imagine what his tour is like.
